On a magistrate's role: Like a judge, a Municipal Court magistrate evaluates and decides the outcomes of everyday cases. The transition from magistrate to judge is a fairly natural progression. Both hear evidence, both decide cases, and both owe the citizens a fair and even-handed decision-making process. I try to accomplish that objective every day as a magistrate, and I will do the same as a judge.
